Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a public speaker. She founded Feminist Frequency, a site with videos and comments discussing the depictions of females in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist over 10 years. Feminist Frequency an online platform for education that examines the role of women in popular culture, is directed by Sarkeesian. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women and the way they appear in popular media. In addition, she works to raise awareness of the online abuse directed towards women and marginalized groups of people. Sarkeesian, who holds the degree of Master's in Political and Social thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is also an extremely sought-after public speaking. She has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Passionate about issues of gender, feminism and identity from the age of 7, she started her website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while still a student at the University. The determined lady had planned to create a web series on gender representation in video games. However, she found herself in the middle for an online harassment campaign. The attack did not deter her instead it strengthened her determination as a feminist media journalist. Her many notable contributions in the field of feminist have been recognized by numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational organization exploring the role of women in pop culture storylines.
